Caritas Nairobi continues to support development and implementation of gender-sensitive initiatives - addressing inequality, discrimination and vulnerability in an integrated, multisector approach.

About The Programme

The Gender and Youth Empowerment Programme seeks to promote equity and equality for all women and girls, men and boys to achieve a holistic and sustainable development and social justice within the
Archdiocese of Nairobi. Our approach in women empowerment and gender equality is for both genders to champion the agenda- men taking lead in supporting the processes while at the same time outlining the roles of men and women.Current projects under the programme are Social Development Program (SDP) for men, the Beacon Boys Program (BBP), Youth Programmme and Promotion of Micro-finance Program (PROMIC).The Programme being need based, continues to customize the interventions to serve better and create more impact; the focus is to reach out to all genders and to focus on special needs such as People Living with Disabilities (PLWD), Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC), PLWHIV/AIDS and any other gender specific issues.

The Gender and Youth development Program responds to 3 thematic areas namely; economic  empowerment, social empowerment and Advocacy.

  1. Social Empowerment: To create a platform for men and women to address social issues affecting then
    and their families.
  2. Economic empowerment- the Programme facilitates savings and credit for women, youth and men within their groups in form of revolving funds. Business Entrepreneurship ventures and trainings are a part of the programme’s strategy in ensuring economic empowerment.
  3. Research and Advocacy: Partnering with other like-minded organization and government ministries to
    influence policy formulation and implementation- ensuring that the basic human rights, equity and
    equality is given priority in all development works.

Programme Goal: To promote equality and equity for all men and women, boys and girls to achieve
holistic, sustainable development and social justice within the Archdiocese of Nairobi.

Objectives:
Objective1: Promote gender responsive interventions that will enhance gender equality and social
inclusion within Nairobi and Kiambu Counties by 2023.
Objective 2: Promote the socio-economic empowerment of women and youth.
