Dairy Production Officer

Caritas Nairobi is the aid and social development agency of the Archdiocese of Nairobi. Our vision is to see a just, self-reliant and value based society. We work in the counties of Kiambu and Nairobi to provide aid and social development services without regards to race, gender, and age, social or religious backgrounds. In line with development objectives, Caritas Nairobi is working with local dairy farmers to enhance their productivity and income through the development and enhancement of a dairy value chain.

Job Summary

Based in Limuru, the dairy production officer will be proficient in all areas of dairy processing in accordance with established methods in order to provide leadership in processing and process control support and assure food quality and food safety. Responsible for driving improved performance, customer relationships, plant asset utilization, and positive employee relations.

Other responsibilities include but are not limited to developing and executing the site budget within guidelines. Manage all plant resources to optimize profitability to meet or exceed internal and external customer expectations. Creating a positive work environment that supports continuous improvement, reinforces company philosophy and policies, and ensuring a diverse and inclusive workforce. Develop the skills of team members.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Direct the activities of the production facility relating to processing of milk and value added products.
  • Operate a wide variety of processing systems through both automated and manual controls.
  • Oversee and lead the implementation of Food Safety Management Standards and operational standards
  • Adhere to Kenyan quality standards to ensure product quality and Food Safety by following Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s)- standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and Kenya specifications.
  • Prepare departmental costs and variances with regard to productivity- short and long-range planning- labour scheduling- product scheduling- raw materials- packaging supplies- product weights- sanitation and housekeeping.
  • Organize production line activities to ensure conformance to established requirements regarding quality, safety, employee relations, productivity, and cost scheduled volume outputs.
  • Work with relevant teams in finding innovative ways to improve the Quality and productivity of our Products.
  • Support Employee involvement in Safety- Analytical Problem Solving- Project Planning- Vendor and Customer Relations- fostering a Team atmosphere.
  • Monitor and update all area practices and policies for compliance.
  • Work with production team in weekly scheduling of processing to optimize productivity.
  • Prepare- distribute- and follow-up with regard to all established records- reports and/or forms.
  • Ensure strong- effective communication across functions and with employees- vendors and government regulators.
  • Monitor productivity data and help develop corrective action plans necessary to achieve annual productivity improvements.
  • Implement safety measures for accident prevention through monthly departmental safety meetings and ensure hourly employee compliance
  • Report on quality defect issues and help determine necessary corrective actions to eliminate repetitive failures.
  • Assist with the supervision of the Production staff including but not limited to performance management and employee development- etc.
  • Carry out any other duties as may be assigned to you from time to time by your immediate supervisor.

 

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

  • A Bachelor degree in Food Technology- or a related discipline from a recognised institution 2) A minimum of three years’ experience in a similar position.
  • Have knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices and clean in place process systems.

  • Knowledge of HACCP and pasteurization operation
  • Preferred experience working in food manufacturing industry especially dairy industry 6) Qualifications and Proficiency in computers applications.
